EA games, the makers of Battlefield, the Sims, and one of my favorite classics, SimCity4 has been dropped from the Nasdaq and is now privately owned by the Saudi investment fund PIF, Silver Lake, and Miami Based Affinity partners owned by Trump's son in Law Jared Kushner.
PIF owns 93.4% and Silver lakes and Afinty own 5.5% and 1.1% respectively according to the daily dev. The total buyout was 56 billion dollars, the largest in gaming history.
For years the Saudi government has been lessening their dependence on Oil exports as the sole means of their economy and has decided to diversify its investments. Part of this includes Saudi Vision 2030, an ambitious plan to expand social rights, cultural heritage and entertainment.
For 5 years prior the PIF company has been a minority stake holder. And it currently holds stakes in Nintendo and Capcom. The government's plan is to become the world's leader in global gaming and e-sports
EA will not be relocated to Riyad and its headquarters will still be in Redwood California. The headquarters of EA will still keep Andrew Wilson as the CEO.
